Sergio Camporeale
Sergio Camporeale (born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1937) is one of the key figures in contemporary Argentine art. With a solid international career spanning more than six decades, he stands out as a visual artist, painter, and printmaker. He is widely recognized for his technical mastery and for injecting a sharp dose of irony, social critique, and poetry into his creations.
Camporeale's visual universe is defined by a dreamlike expressionist style. His paintings simulate theatrical stages teeming with recurring characters, masks, and symbolism. Instead of offering straightforward answers, each work poses a riddle or reflects the absurdities of modern life, inviting the viewer's engagement.
Artist Statement
“I conceive of my work as a theatrical stage and an open visual puzzle, where I use watercolor, irony, and expressionism to poetically question the absurdities of the contemporary human condition.”— Sergio Camporeale
